DOT Reselects SkyWest Airlines, Operating as United Express to serve Prescott Regional Airport

The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has issued Order 2020-7-2, awarding a new Essential Air Service (EAS) contract to SkyWest Airlines, branded as United Express. The USDOT contract assures continuation of double-hub, non-stop service for Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and the Verde Valley leisure and business travelers for three years, commencing on September 01, 2020.

“After decades of underperforming air service providers at PRC, we are excited the USDOT has seen the value SkyWest has provided to the citizens of Northern Arizona during the current EAS contract,” said City of Prescott Mayor Greg Mengarelli.

“We are pleased to continue serving the Prescott area and know our passengers can fly with confidence thanks to the additional measures being taken on every flight,” said Greg Atkin, SkyWest managing director of Market Development. “From enhanced cleaning, mandatory face coverings and customer self-assessments with check-in, we remain committed to the health and safety of all onboard our aircraft.”

Passengers flying from Prescott Regional Airport – Ernest A. Love Field (PRC) will continue to enjoy convenient service to Denver International Airport (DEN) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) onboard the 50-passenger Bombardier CRJ200.

The EAS program was established to assure that small communities maintain a minimal level of scheduled air service and access to the national air transportation system.  In January 2020, the USDOT requested proposals from air carriers interested in providing Essential Air Service at PRC for a new contract term. SkyWest Airlines, the incumbent carrier, was the only carrier to submit a proposal.

“We appreciate the strong partnership that has been forged between SkyWest Airlines, operating as United Express, and the City of Prescott, “ noted Airport Director, Robin Sobotta. “Since service launched in August 2020, more than 85,000 total passengers have enjoyed the convenience associated with flying out of Prescott to hundreds of United destinations. In early 2021, their travel experience will be further enhanced with the completion of the new Prescott Regional Airport Passenger Terminal.”
